HR Professionals more ambitious than the average UK worker

Posted by

Credit to you guys! As HR professionals, you’re per this nationwide survey more ambitious than the average UK worker. 83% of HR people consider themselves to be ambitious. And so you should be. Because nobody is going to get you where you want to be other than yourself. The good news doesn’t end there either. HR professionals apparently have greater job satisfaction than most. 69% of respondents rate their working lives as either good or excellent.

So, what’s driving this ambition? Well it depends on the individual. Where do you want to be in five years’ time? Don’t just think about your career. Think about your life and what you want it to look like. Money is a key driver, but so is time. What good is a fancy job title when you’re trapped in a corporate bubble, unable to spend more time doing the things you love with the people you love?

Interestingly, more than half of the HR people surveyed would take a pay hit to work in a more diverse and engaging environment. It’s not hard to see why. People often get into HR because they love working with people, and understand the value they hold for an organisation. The HR Dept’s Licensees get their fill of
this every day through their work with small and medium sized businesses.

Understanding what motivates you will help you plot your course for the journey ahead. Whether it’s to escape the corporate world, build a business to be proud of, work with dynamic small businesses or to forge new relationships, The HR Dept can help. If you have the right experience and qualifications, your future could be with our network. Get in touch to find out more.

Five stars for The HR Dept’s Licensees

Marketing your business is so much easier when your services sell themselves. Our HR professionals and business owners pull out all the stops to provide their customers with the solutions to their people problems, every day is a day to save the day! Why? Because our Licensees are really passionate about what they do. Going into a small business where a simple small HR issue can easily cause the owner to lose sleep, the reward you feel for solving the problem far supersedes the finances (but it can be very lucrative too!)

As our Founder Sue Tumelty would say, our customers become our friends.

With this approach to doing business, the entire HR Dept network has consistently secured incredible results in our annual customer’s surveys. We’ve recently launched a profile on TrustPilot too, over 90% of customers there have rated our services with 5 stars, a huge achievement if we say so ourselves!

When looking to join a franchise, quality is everything. You don’t want to buy into a brand that doesn’t deliver. We make sure that you get access to the training and resources you need to build a successful business and offer your customers the 5 star service they’ve heard so much about.

42% of HR professionals yearn for a good work-life balance

That means almost half in the profession feel they work too long and see their families too little. Not great news then for parents, carers, and others who’re becoming exhausted by the corporate lifestyle. HR professionals tend to be the ones spending time out of the office and travelling the breadth of the country for meetings, all this is clearly taking its toll on the UK and Irelands HR professionals.

Time here is operative. New parents often want to spend more time at home, professionals close to retirement look for opportunities that allow them to stay local; all have turned to us to help them build a business in their local area. Why is this such a good option?

Because you can choose to work the hours that suit you. If you’d rather work in the evenings so you can pick the kids up after school, you can. Your business fits around your life, not the other way around. Being flexible doesn’t have to come at a price either, you’ll be able to build a successful business if you follow our model and enjoy a good income in return for your hard work.

Building your business is a challenge, but it’s made easier by the fantastic support you’ll receive from the central office and the 60+ strong network of HR Dept Licensees who have been through it all before. We’re a collaborative network, we all support each other and that’s what makes us different. Far from working on your own, this could be the biggest HR team you’ve ever been a part of!

If you think this could be for you we urge you to read our brochure. It gives you a proper introduction to The HR Dept.

Sales Training

When recruiting new Licensees, we often hear the same sort of fears from the start “but I’ve never sold anything before – does this matter?” the answer is of course, no. Here at The HR Dept, you are not necessarily selling something specific; you are selling yourself as an HR professional with a wealth of knowledge and experience to help SMEs find the best solutions to their people problems.

Upon your induction, we work closely with an external sales expert to give you the best start in how to sell yourself along with our bespoke services and products. We then offer a further full day’s training to follow up and to make sure you are getting the most out of what you have learned already.

Who franchises?

It’s an interesting question, are there particular characteristics that belong to successful franchisees?

For our opportunity, applicants must have the crucial experience to deliver the quality HR service to their customers that our brand is so well known for, we’ve helped a whole range of diverse and different HR professionals to set up under The HR Dept’s brand.

Our network of 60 HR professionals mainly came to us after long corporate careers but amongst our ranks we boast a couple of singers and a couple of amateur dramatic performers! We’ve also helped ex-forces personnel to set up their own HR businesses who’ve come to us after long and successful careers in the military.
Eamonn Gibney, our first Licensee to operate in Ireland spent years with the forces. No stranger to a challenge, he launched and firmly established The HR Dept brand in Ireland, forming a path that other Irish Licensees would soon follow. With a loyal customer base and a growing network of Licensees around him, the Irish network is going from strength to strength.

“In the first month of being a HR Dept licensee, following the guidance of the central office and utilising those “transferable skills” I secured my first two clients.”

But it’s not just skills or experience that draw licensees to our franchise. It’s the desire to be in charge of your own destinies, to build something, and to use their HR skills to help their local business community. So many enquire about our opportunity saying exactly the same and it’s our job to give them all the information they need to make the right decision.
